After the holidays, the National Thanksgiving Turkey and its alternate will live in a custom-made enclosure at Mount Vernon’s … livestock facility. Both birds were raised in Willmar, Minn.”’
November 18th - On 10/28, OWS was busy bracing for winter by stockpiling coats, blankets and military style tents. One occupier, Michael McCarthy, confidently stated, “Everyone’s been calling it our Valley Forge moment”. A bit of a stretch considering these Valley Forge statistics:
1) Of the 12,000 Continentals, only 1/3 had shoes
2) Typhoid, jaundice, dysentery, and pneumonia killed around 2,500
3) Soldiers often had only “fire cake”, a mixture of flour & water, to live on.
With the tents now gone, we’ll never know if this would have been OWS’s “Valley Forge moment”. Fortunately, the monument pictured captures the movement’s historic struggle against all odds.
